Toy Machine - A Bloodsucking Skateboard Company
Ed Templeton is one of the most creative names in skateboarding and was one of the pivotal figures in the industry in the 80s and 90s. As a matter of fact, he won the street contest in the Münster Monster Mastership in 1990. In addition to skateboarding, Ed Templeton is an active and enthusiastic painter, photographer and graphic designer. If ideas just seem to come to you that easily, it makes sense to start your own company, right? Toy Machine was launched in 1993.. The boss himself was the visionary and driving force behind the artistic designs his Californian label is known for until 2013.
Templeton’s Designs for Toy Machine
Toy Machine has a very distinctive look which is always instantly recognizable. Their repeating themes and abstract characters like the one-eyed “Sect” and the devilish “Monster” are infamous, even outside the skate scene. The colorful and often surreal Templeton graphics can be seen on a variety of Toy Machine decks and numerous other items such as skate bearings and wheels. There are Toy Machine socks and caps featuring the Sect, and lots of standard streetwear must-haves, like t-shirts and hoodies, are covered in their logo and Templeton’s characters.
Toy Machine Videos and Team Riders
The company has also made some seriously excellent skate videos. With releases like Brainwash, Heavy Metal and Welcome to Hell, Toy Machine raised skateboarding’s standards tremendously. To ensure his company keeps raising the bar in the future, Ed put together a top-notch, professional skate team, which includes the likes of Leo Romero, Billy Marks, Jeremy Leabres, Matt Bennett, Josh Harmony, Collin Provost, Blake Carpenter and Daniel Lutheran. In addition to having some of the best Toy Machine designs ever to be featured on a skateboard, we’ve got the perfect skate shoes to go with them in our online shop!
